Katherine Tingley and the Theatrical Work of the Universal Brotherhood and Theosophical Society: 1898-1929

The Aroma of Athens

The Aroma of Athens was one of several original dramatic "symposia" produced at Point Loma. Because these were works written from a modern Theosophical perspective, they dealt very directly with Theosophical teachings-especially the teaching of Universal Brotherhood. Typically, the structure UBTS symposia took the form of philosophical discussions divided between episodes of dance and recitation.

These photographs show details from a 1911 production of Aroma of Athens that took place in the Greek Theatre under Katherine Tingley's direction.
